Wait... Is There Going to Be a New Death Star in STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI!?
I know one thing that Star Wars fans like to joke around about is the Death Star because almost all the stories revolve around a Death Star-type weapon. Fans have talked about, speculated on, and joked about a new Death Star type weapon popping up in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
I didn't think Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm would go that route because that just seems like it would be ridiculous. The First Order basically had a Death Star planet in The Force Awakens. But then all of a sudden this packaging for one of the toys for The Last Jedi was released (Below) and it features Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter ship speeding away from... a Death Star!
This version looks a lot more like the versions we saw in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Maybe this is just something that was thrown onto the packaging to make it look cool, but then maybe the movie will feature a new Death Star.
I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility that the First Order would build a fleet of Death Stars in between the time of Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi. If they could build a starship that's over 37 miles long for Supreme Leader Snoke, I guess building a few Death Stars wouldn't really be a big deal. After all, the First Order seems to have unlimited resources to do it.
Director Rian Johnson said nothing released with these toys would be considered a spoiler, so I doubt it will play a big role in the story, it might just be one of those, "Hey look, the First Order has a Death Star for a base" type things. But it may never really tie into the direct stor like with the other films. What do you think?
They are building a third Death Star. ;) Confirmed on box art for #TheLastJedi. (via @BoSanders70 in https://t.co/DOmA2gZ608)! pic.twitter.com/6rO1RyenJ5
