Walton Goggins Responds to Pete Davidson’s Warning That Fans Will Tell Him to "Go the F*ck Away"
Pete Davidson has never been shy about sharing his unfiltered thoughts on fame, and his latest hot take has sparked a surprising but cool response from Walton Goggins.
The comedian recently suggested that fans inevitably get bored of celebrities once they’ve reached a certain level of success, pointing to Pedro Pascal and Goggins as examples. While that might sound like a bit of a downer, Goggins had the best possible response: “F*ck it.”
Davidson shared his perspective on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von on YouTube, where he broke down the cycle of public adoration turning into backlash. Using Pascal’s meteoric rise as his example, Davidson didn’t hold back:
“Look at Pedro Pascal right now. F*cking two years ago, he’s a hardworking, great actor … He’s worked so hard and has been a struggling actor, [and then he] fucking blows up so f*cking hard.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Daddy, daddy! Yeah, daddy, daddy.’ And then a year later, he’s, like, in everything now ’cause he’s hot and big and everyone’s like, ‘Go the f*ck away, dude!’ …
“You gotta give someone time to adjust to that new level of fame. He’s been banging at it for 30 years and, now, he’s learning how to get a cup of coffee or deal with someone that like, taps you on the shoulder while you have your earbuds in and freaks you out.”
Pascal’s career explosion has been massive in recent years, with roles in The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Gladiator II, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and more. But Davidson believes that same public burnout is waiting for Goggins too:
“They’re gonna do it – Walton Goggins will be next. They’ll be like, ‘What the f*ck?!’ We build everybody up and, now, it’s so fast, the turn.”
It didn’t take long for Goggins to catch wind of Davidson’s comments, and he decided to weigh in with some class and humor. On Instagram, the Justified and Fallout star shared his thoughts, noting that while he doesn’t know Davidson personally, he understood where the comedian was coming from:
“Pete, we don’t know each other but I appreciate the heads up. We agree on one thing… Pedro Pascal isn’t a good man, He’s a great man. A dear friend of mine.
“As a 53 year old, I’m acutely aware that every experience has a shelf life. I appreciate so many of you going on this journey with me. I imagine a lot of you (and I don’t blame you) are tired of hearing my homilies.
“Trust me I’m tired of saying them. I have a few things coming out that I have an obligation to talk about… not for me mind you, but to honor all of those that worked so hard to bring these stories to fruition.
“So if you see something with my name on it I encourage you not to click on it… unless you want to… and if you do…I appreciate the support.”
Goggins, who has been enjoying a career high with standout performances in The White Lotus, Invincible, The Righteous Gemstones, and most recently Fallout, went on to put the whole situation in perspective with a refreshingly grounded outlook:
“How lucky am I that this is even a possibility?!! I’ve had the good fortune of engaging in so many interesting conversations with so many of you….of collaborating with so many top-shelf people across so many disciplines over the last couple of years.
“Way more than a poor kid from Georgia would ever have the audacity to imagine. I wouldn’t take one back. So… If saying yes in life more than saying no is a crime, then I’m guilty as charged.
“And If this headline is a possibility or an inevitability… if this is my fate… Well… F*ck it. I’m going to enjoy the F*CK OUT OF IT.”
That’s about as perfect of a response as you could ask for. While Davidson might see an inevitable cycle of fame and backlash, Goggins is clearly focused on gratitude, perspective, and making the most out of the opportunities he’s earned.
