Walton Goggins to Play Villain in MIAMI VICE '85 Opposite Leads Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler

Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Walton Goggins (The Shield, The Righteous Gemstones, The White Lotus) has signed on to play a villainous role in Universal’s Miami Vice ’85, opposite leading actors Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.

The supporting cast also includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo and Danny Ramirez. Joseph Kosinski is directing the pic from a script by Dan Gilroy. Goggins will reportedly play one of the henchman to Leguizamo’s cartel king.

Kosinski was hoping for Goggins to play the role early on, but scheduling for his Prime Video series Fallout had to be worked out first. Once that was settled last week, a deal was done for the actor to join the cast.

Miami Vice ’85 explores the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami in an all-new version of Miami Vice, inspired by the pilot episode of the landmark 1984-90 NBC series. The movie will be filmed for Imax and is set for release on May 19, 2028. Production will begin this year.

Goggins is currently in production on Season 3 of Fallout at Amazon. He recently wrapped Mister, directed by Wade Eastwood for Amazon. Coming to theaters on November 25th is the coming-of-age animated pic Hexed for Walt Disney Animation Studio.
