WANDAVISION Showrunner Jac Schaeffer Teases Emotional Ending to the Hit Series
WandaVision has been such a fun series so far, with a mysterious beginning and each episode unveiling layers of what’s really going on. Last week’s episode really shook things up with the introduction of Pietro from another dimension, and things got tense between Vision and Wanda when he told her that he suspected that she’s controlling everything inside their little world. Many suspected that she was controlling everything, but that episode made us wonder if she is not the mastermind behind it all.
There are still three episodes left after this week’s, and it looks like we will have a few more surprises, but the show’s creator and showrunner, Jac Schaeffer, has also teased that the series may have an emotional ending. In a recent interview with io9, Schaeffer said:
“It’s wonderful to see these characters move on to other projects, but what I wanted was for this show to feel complete and for there to be a true emotional catharsis that audiences get to experience themselves.”
It certainly does feel like we are building to some sort of emotional peak, as Wanda has been in such a struggle through the whole series to protect her happiness. We know her bubble in Westview isn’t sustainable, and now things are happening that she isn’t controlling. Plus, Vision is confused about his past and their state of being. It has to come to a head somehow, and it doesn’t seem like it will be a smooth road to resolve. In talking about Evan Peters’s return to the role of Quicksilver/Pietro, Schaeffer said:
“We loved the idea of [bringing him back]. And then we were like, how in the world are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how do we justify this? Because that's the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to make them land, to make them be grounded, to make them feel organic to the larger story.”
She went on to add:
“This show is such a mind scramble, and because it's working on so many levels, and there's so many notions of what's real and what's not, and performance, and casting, and audience, and fandom, and all of that, we just thought it would be the biggest thrill to bring Evan over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
It was definitely a fun curveball that fans can’t wait to see get resolved. How do you think everything is going to play out in the final episodes of WandaVision?
