Warner Bros. Debating WONDER WOMAN 1984 Release for January on HBO Max or a Summer 2021 Theatrical Pushback
We are six weeks out from the Christmas release of Wonder Woman 1984. This is, of course, only one of the planned release dates this year for the film, but now it’s seeming like maybe that won’t even happen. The folks over at Warner Bros. are looking at the release and debating whether they should keep the December 25th theater release then turn the film over to HBO Max in January, or if they should push the whole thing back to a Summer 2021 theater release.
I feel like movie studios were cautiously optimistic at the beginning of this whole thing, hoping that a few months would see the pandemic slow down and things would get back to normal, but that is clearly not the case. So I (an HBO Max subscriber) say they should go for the release and give the fans what we want! I think all the movies that we were waiting to see this year should just release on streaming platforms this Christmas so we can have something good this year. We deserve it. But, I digress.
Either way, director Patty Jenkins has expressed that the film was made for the big screen, and it will get a theatrical release one way or the other. If it does get the HBO Max release as well, that would be the biggest blockbuster the streaming service has seen yet, and would help to solidify the membership base. We will let you know when we hear the final word. Are you hoping for the sooner release date?
