Man of Steel and Dark Knight trilogy writer David S. Goyer recently opened up about certain aspects of his career and the films that he’s worked on. In regards to the DC movies that he’s helped develop, he was asked if Man of Steel being a part of Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe was ever discussed. It turns out that Warner Bros. wanted the Dark Knight trilogy to be part of an expanded universe. He explained:

"Chris always wanted to keep the Dark Knight films as a separate entity and [the studio] kept wanting, understandably, to pull him into a whole DC expanded universe. Chris obviously was a producer on Man of Steel, and it's tempting to think they were linked, but they really weren't. I mean, I'm sure one could retroactively do it."

Director Zack Snyder recently said in an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast that his Superman movie could have ended up being linked to Nolan's trilogy, saying, "It was not 100 percent off the table. We did talk about it a little bit."

As you know, it never happened, which is good. I think Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy should stand on its own. Would you have wanted to see Nolan’s Batman film be a part of the DCEU?
