Warner Bros. Looking To Develop a LORD OF THE RINGS Series For Amazon!
It looks like there's a chance we will see a Lord of the Rings TV series on Amazon! Warner Bros. Television and the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien seems to be on good terms again and they are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a series based on Tolkien's epic Lord of the Rings fantasy novels.
The fact that this is happening is both extremely exciting and very scary. The Lord of the Rings is one of those stories that has a special place in my heart and Peter Jackson's film trilogy is absolutely stunning. Those films are the only adaptation that I felt the books would ever need. I honestly never thought that someone would come along to try and do that again. Obviously, Warner Bros. and the Tolkien estate are feeling bold and feel that it's time to revisit the story and give the fans a new adaptation.
I want to be excited about this, but it's hard to imagine seeing a series outdo what Peter Jackson has already done. But, it will be interesting to see a new vision of the story brought to life from a new creative team. I'm so torn! We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.
According to Variety, the negotiations with Amazon Studios are still in the very early stages and no deal has been officially set yet. One thing is for sure, Jackson won't be involved in this new project because, for some reason, the Tolkien estate wasn't happy with how he handled the material with his films.
I'm curious to know what talent they are looking to bring in to develop the series. Whoever it is better be super freakin' talented!
What do you all think about this Lord of the Rings TV series that will eventually be going into development?
