Warner Bros. Looking To Hire Producer Dan Lin as The New Head Honcho of DC Films and TV
It’s looking like Warner Bros. has found its version of Kevin Feige for the DC projects that will be developed for film and TV. Producer Dan Lin is in talks with the studio to come in and take charge of DC. Lin has developed films such as Stephen King’s It, Disney’s Aladdin, WB’s The LEGO Movie, and more.
According to THR, the role would encompass overseeing not just film but television as well, with Lin reporting directly to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. “The proposed structure would bypass three separate division heads Warner Bros. Pictures’ heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, HBO/HBO Max chief Casey Bloys, and Warner Bros. TV chair Channing Dungey — and put control of DC in the hands of one person.”
Walter Hamada is currently the head of DC Films and he will transition out of the role. He was already looking to step down and move on, but he decided to stick around until the release of Black Adam. So, he’s not going to be around much longer.
The report goes on to say that WB and Lin are currently discussing salary, reporting structure and the future of Lin’s prolific production company, Rideback.
Zaslav has previously said he was looking to hire someone that could be WB’s own version of Kevin Feige, and it looks like he thinks he’s found that person with Lin. The question is… can Lin actually pull off what WB is looking to do with DC?
It was previously reported that there is a 10-year plan laid out that Zaslav hopes will allow the brand to actually compete with what Marvel Studios has been doing. Zaslav said, “We think we can build a much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC. As part of that, we are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s ready…DC is something we can make better.”
Lin has produced some great films in his career but taking on something like this for DC is a totally different beast! Other producers and executives that were considered include Amy Pascal, Matt Tolmach, Sean Bailey and Greg Berlanti.
If Lin actually does take over and lead the charge over at DC, I wish him the best of luck, and hope that he is able to produce some awesome new DC film and TV projects!
