Warner Bros. Looking to Release Four DC Films in Theaters and Two DC Films on HBO Max a Year
Warner Bros. is looking to really beef up their DC film slate in the coming years. Wonder Woman 1984 is just the ginning of a slew of DC films that will follow. The film was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, and it won’t be the last DC film to debut on HBO Max.
In a recent The New York Times article, DC Films president Walter Hamada opened up and talked about their future plans for superhero films. Those plans involve releasing up to four a year in theaters starting in 2022 while they will also release two additional superhero films per year exclusively on HBO Max.
It’s explained in the article that the DC films that would go to the streaming service would be “riskier” specifically naming characters like Batgirl and Static Shock. We don’t know if those titles are set in stone for HBO Max, though. This would all also be in addition to the development of additional DC TV shows.
Hamada said, "With every movie that we're looking at now, we are thinking, 'What's the potential Max spinoff?'"
It’ll be interesting to see what the future of DC films will be when WB finally gets on a role. Marvel has got everything figured out. They know exactly what they are doing, and they have a plan in place that takes their slate of films and TV shows through the next five to ten years. WB and DC seem to have just figured things out on how they want to proceed. I can’t wait to see what they end up delivering beyond the films that we know are already coming.
What do you all think about DC movie release plans in the future?
