Warner Bros.' Sci-Fi Chase Film MIDNIGHT SPECIAL Gets Its First Trailer
I'm very curious about Midnight Special, the first studio film from Take Shelter and Mud director Jeff Nichols, and now Warner Bros. has released the movie's first trailer to give us a sense of what to expect. The sci-fi chase film has shades of E.T., Close Encounters, and Starman, and it looks like there's also a bit of Looper in there too. It's a throwback to movies from the '80s and has the simple, effective premise to prove it: a father (Michael Shannon) must protect his super-powered son from the government. With that writer/director, that premise, and a cast that includes Shannon, Adam Driver, Sam Shepard, Kirsten Dunst, and Joel Edgerton, I'm totally on board with this one.
Midnight Special arrives in theaters on March 18th, 2016.
In the sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” writer/director Jeff Nichols proves again that he is one of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as a father (Michael Shannon) goes on the run to protect his young son, Alton (Jaeden Lieberher), and uncover the truth behind the boy’s special powers. What starts as a race from religious extremists and local law enforcement quickly escalates to a nationwide manhunt involving the highest levels of the Federal Government. Ultimately his father risks everything to protect Alton and help fulfill a destiny that could change the world forever in this genre–defying film as supernatural as it is intimately human.
