Warner Bros. Sets Release Dates For THE FLASH, THE MATRIX 4, and Removes AKIRA From Schedule

Warner Bros. has set release dates for a few of its big upcoming film projects for next year and beyond. The films on the list include DC’s The Flash, The Matrix 4, Mortal Kombat and Akria has been removed from the release schedule.

Director Andy Muschietti’s The Flash is set for July 1st, 2022. The other DC projects coming include Aquaman 2 on December 16th, Birds of Prey for February 7, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 for June 5, 2020, The Batman for June 5, 2021, The Suicide Squad for August 6th, 2021 and Black Adam for December 22, 2021.

Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix 4 is set for May 21, 2021. This means that the film opens the same day as John Wick 4! That’s going to be an interesting weekend at the box office! The film sees the return of Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), and Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) as well as newcomers Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris as a villain, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to be playing a young version of Morpheus.

Then, unfortunately, Taika Waititi’s live-action feature film adaptation of the classic Manga Akira. I’ve actually been looking forward to this because I know Waititi is going to do it right. I’m sure the film will eventually happen, it’s just going to be awhile before we see it.

Other noteworthy release dates announced include Fred Hampton‘s biopic of the Black Panthers revolutionary, which is set for August 21, 2020. Then the Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be released on September 11, 2020. They also moved up its Mortal Kombat movie from its original March 2021 date to January 15, 2021.

Three untitled event films have been slotted, as well, with WB ones on October 16, 2020 and March 5, 2021, and a New Line one on January 29, 2021. Three other event films have been removed from the schedule, two in 2020 and one in February 2021.
