Warwick Davis Opens Up About the WILLOW Series and Gives an Update About What's Going On
Earlier this week, we learned that screenwriter Jon Kasdan (Solo) opened up a writer’s room for a Willow sequel series that would air on Disney+! Work has begun on the series, but there’s still a long way to go. During a recent interview with ComingSoon, Warwick Davis opened up about the series and gave us all a reality check of what’s really going on right now as nothing has been finalized yet. He explained:
“At this stage … the excitement of the fans and the internet, and what have you, has been overwhelming and has actually got a little bit ahead of the reality of things at this stage, which is very flattering. But all the right people are kind of aligned – it’s like the stars have aligned in the heavens for Willow.”
While the series has yet to be given an official greenlight, Davis is still very excited for the opportunity he might have to reprise his role of Willow after all these years. He would love to explore what has happened to the character:
“I’d certainly relish the opportunity to play a character that I really enjoyed playing the first time around. I’m a bit older and a bit wiser as an actor now, and the character would also be a bit older and wiser and I think there’s really an interesting story there. What has happened between the time we saw him in ‘Willow’ and now? Has he mastered the art of sorcery? What has happened there?”
With this Willow sequel series being in the early stages of development. there’s still a long way to go. Davis went on to say that he’s just as excited as we are about it happening:
“I’m very much excited about the whole prospect. I mean, who knew that we would ever come back or consider doing this again? Everything is looking fantastic, but we don’t know as of yet whether this will indeed become a reality. So, fingers crossed. I’m as excited as you are.”
Director Ron Howard previously talked about the concept of developing a Willow sequel series, saying, “I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
Howard also said that the series would explore a “more mature Willow.” He also said, “Warwick is so cool and so good and he’s such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action.”
Well, hopefully, it happens! I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the story and script they develop ends up being to Lucasfilm and Disney’s liking. The fans obviously would love to see this series happen, so it does have an audience waiting for it!
