How The Final Awesome Post-Credits Scene in SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Sets Up The MCU's Future

If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far From Home yet, you won’t want to read this yet. This article contains heavy spoilers for the film as I discuss whether or not S.W.O.R.D. was introduced in the movie.

For those of you who have seen Spider-Man: Far From Home, let’s jump right into it!

The very last post-credits scene in the movie revealed that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were not Nick Fury and Maria Hill. They were actually the Skrull characters Talos and Soren, the Skrull couple who were introduced in Captain Marvel.

We also learn that the real Nick Fury is actually off with the Skrulls in space in an alien starship with a population of Skrulls. These big reveals set up two possible things.

With the Skrulls still on Earth, this could help Marvel set up a Secret Invasion story arc. It would have to be a different take than the source material because the Skrulls have teamed up with the good guys. But there is a chance that could change over time.

The other thing this could possibly introduce to the MCU is S.W.O.R.D., aka Sentient World Observation and Response Department. This is a counterterrorism and intelligence agency that deals with extraterrestrial threats to world security. This could be what ends up replacing S.H.I.E.L.D., and it would make complete sense to bring this into the MCU because we‘ve heard several times that the next phase of the MCU would have a lot to do with the cosmic aspect of the universe.

I would love to see Nick Fury head up S.W.O.R.D.! That would open up some many doors and there’s a lot of stuff there for Marvel to play with.

None of this is confirmed. I didn’t see S.W.O.R.D. anywhere in the movie. It’s just a theory, and I’d like to see it introduced in the Marvel Universe.

We’ll find out what Marvel is planning later this month at Comic-Con! Would you like to see a Secret Invasion story arc play out in the MCU? Would you want to see Nick Fury head up S.W.O.R.D.?
