Watch a Rare and Interesting 1970's Marvel Vs. DC Comic Book Documentary

We've seen a good amount of documentaries made over the years about comic books and comic characters. Now some interesting rare old doc has been uncovered from the past that is a must watch for comic fans. This footage for the documentary was shot in the late 1970's and focuses on the comic book industry and the two comic book titans who ran it... Marvel and DC.

The doc was narrated by Jonathan Winters and goes over quite a bit of information from how the collaboration of comics work, to what kind of fans the comic industry has. I watched what has been posted online and I was really intrigued. While it isn't completely accurate with how things work nowadays, it's so interesting to see how Marvel and DC ran the comic book business in the 70's. The doc was apparently distributed to schools and libraries thru a New York company called Lucerne.

My favorite thing is seeing a young Stan Lee and Neal Adams back when they were actively involved in the creation process. You see Stan looking at images and giving advice and opinions on what he likes. Amongst other things seen is the creation of Black Lightning by Trevor Von Eden, who was only 17 at the time, and the making of the now famous Superman vs Muhammad Ali comic.

It's one thing to see comic writers and creators look back and reminisce on the past, but something else entirely to watch them in their element at the time where they were building worlds and creating characters. The stock footage that is available on youtube isn't too long, but definitely worth a watch. Check it out below.
