Watch a Teenage Seth MacFarlane Star in a STAR TREK Fan Film He Made With His Friends
I don't know about you, but I've enjoyed the hell out of Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek-inspired series, The Orville. It's not only a funny comedy, but it also has heart. His love for Star Trek shines in the series, and in case you're wondering how far back his fandom for Star Trek actually goes, a video has surfaced showing a short film that he and his friends made back when he was a teenager and it's actually pretty damn impressive for a film made by a bunch of teenagers!
When talking to BleedingCool about The Orville, MacFarlane said that “this show, more than any others I’ve done, is the one I came to Hollywood to make." He went on to say:
“I love comedy, I love sci-fi, and to try to exist in both worlds is a challenge, to do it in an hour long format is an absolute joy. There is a certain aspirational hopeful optimistic sci-fi that hasn’t really been done in 15-20 years. Star Trek did it for a long time, but then they evolved into something different, so it left open that space for that thing we all used to love so much. That’s what I’m trying to recapture, while at the same time a brand-new spin on it with some ingredients that no one has ever seen before.”
He's done a great job with The Orville and I'm pumped up for Season 2. While we wait for that, enjoy this fun short film that MacFarlane made back in the day. You watch this and you know that he's having a blast living his dream with his series The Orville.
