Watch: Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford Search For TRUTH in First Trailer
I just got back from seeing a screening of Spotlight, the new film about the team of journalists who broke the Catholic priest sex scandal, and let me say this: it's going to take a heck of a movie to unseat that one as the best journalism-based film of the year. Truth will attempt to do just that. It follows famed reporter Dan Rather (played by classic journo movie All The President's Men alum Robert Redford) and his producer (Cate Blanchett) as they grapple with their own scandal, one that centers on a story they wrote that was factually inaccurate. This is the true story behind the demise of Rather's legendary career, and you can see the first trailer and poster for the film below via Yahoo. I'm intrigued. Truth will be in select theaters on October 16th.
TRUTH is an independent feature film based on the book "Truth and Duty" by Mary Mapes. In the vein of "All The President's Men" and "The Insider", it is the incredible true story of Mary Mapes (played by Cate Blanchett), an award-winning CBS News Journalist and Dan Rather's producer, who broke the Abu-Ghraib prison abuse story, among others.
The film chronicles the story Mapes and Rather (played by Robert Redford) uncovered that a sitting US president may have been AWOL from the United States National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War. When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Dan Rather's career, nearly changed a US Presidential election, and almost took down all of CBS News in the process.
