Watch Hayao Miyazaki Work With His First CG Animated Creation in the Clip From NEVER-ENDING MAN

There’s a new documentary coming out called Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki that follows legendary Studio Ghibli animation artist and director Hayao Miyazaki after he came out of retirement to make a new movie, Kemushi no Boro.

This new movie he’s directing is the first time he’s ever worked with CG animation. Today we have a clip here for you to watch, thanks to io9, featuring Miyazaki meeting his caterpillar CG creation and learning about the the CGI process and the things he can accomplish with the technology.

This is a guy who has done beautiful hand-drawn animation his whole life, and he’s being thrust into a completely new technological world. It’s interesting to see how he reacts to it the CGI tech and works with it as when making his new film.

As you’ll see, Miyazaki looks both happy and confused about the CGI animation process.

Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki’s gets a limited release starting today, December 13th, and there will be more screenings added across the US on December 18th.
