In this video essay, the YouTuber known as Now You See It explores how Hollywood films and television shows use the game of chess to illustrate points about their plots or characters. Most of the time I feel like it's fairly obvious what the filmmakers are trying to say when they use this trope, but I'd never taken a close look at the way it's used in 2001 and how that could be read as foreshadowing of what comes later.
