Watch: LOGAN's VFX Reel Shows Wolverine's Claws Doing Damage

/Film points us to this solid VFX breakdown of James Mangold's Logan from the team at Rising Sun Pictures, who are largely responsible for inflicting the digital damage created by Wolverine's claws in the film. It's a testament to the quality of these films that I've never once considered how difficult it must be for the actors being stabbed to work out the timing with Hugh Jackman for claws that aren't actually there on the set. They have to react before his fist arrives, because the claws would make impact first.

Reprising its role on The Wolverine, Rising Sun Pictures joined Director James Mangold's team for Logan, the third and final installment in 20th Century Fox/Marvel's "Wolverine" saga. Working under Production VFX Supervisor Chas Jarrett and Co-Producer Kurt Williams, RSP contributed some 230 shots to the dark, visceral tale, with the work ranging from animating the title character's trademark claws to producing finely-detailed matte paintings of locations in Mexico, Texas and elsewhere.
