Watch Marvel's Kevin Feige and DC's Geoff Johns Discuss The Influence of Richard Donner's SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE
Richard Donner's Superman: The Movie is easily the most iconic and influential superhero movie that's been made. It's made a huge impact on the superhero films that we are seeing made today. It's had so much of an influence that Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns came together to talk about how Superman: The Movie influenced them and their careers. This was all part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tribute to Donner.
Both Feige and Johns interned for Donner when they were starting out their careers. Now they are leading the charge in the superhero film genre. It's fun listening to them share stories about experiences they had with Donner and how Superman impacted them and their careers.
One of the cooler and more interesting things mentioned is that the guys at Marvel watch Superman: The Movie before every movie they make to inspire them. Feige says:
"Superman: The Movie is still to this day the archetype of the perfect superhero film origin story and we watch it before we make almost any one of our films, and that's been the case for the past seventeen years since I left the fold to go work for Marvel."
I love that a DC film like Superman: The Movie is directly influencing the films that Marvel is making.
