Watch: Natalie Dormer Heads Into The Woods in Horror Film THE FOREST

You'll probably recognize actress Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones or as Cressida in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, but now it's time for her to undergo the rite of passage that seemingly all leading ladies must endure: headlining her own horror movie. The film is called The Forest, and it Dormer plays a woman looking for her twin sister, who's vanished in the suicide forest at the base of Mount Fuji.

“The Forest,” which is set in the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mt. Fuji, tells the story of a young American woman who goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who prey on anyone who wanders into the forest.

MTV has the first trailer, which you can watch below. While I haven't seen that setting on film before, the rest of this movie unfortunately looks very familiar — so much so that even though I adore Dormer in Game of Thrones, I'll probably end up sitting this one out. It just doesn't look like it has enough originality to justify a ticket purchase. The Forest arrives in theaters on January 8th, 2016.

A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of "Game of Thrones" and "The Hunger Games"), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone's warnings to "stay on the path," Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister's fate.
