Watch THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Cast and Crew Talk Process
I am pretty sure that there is a tiny amount of new footage in this ten minute Film 4 interview special with the cast and director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I am also pretty sure that some enterprising person could take the 37 million trailers, clips, and featurettes Sony has released and edit together a rough cut of the movie. Is anything going to be a surprise? Anyway, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, and Marc Webb are predictably charming as they discuss the making of the sequel and the joys of doing a Spider-Man movie, especially DeHaan, who is making the transition from low-budget independent films and seems pretty enamored with the luxuries of major studio funding.
Also charming is Hans Zimmer, who gets a Sony featurette all his own about scoring the movie and forming a little band with Pharrell Williams and Johnny Marr. The only thing is, Webb says that he brought on Zimmer because he wanted the music to “feel contemporary” and “fit within our world.” Have you guys heard the song they came up with? It is some straight up Barry Manilow. Actually, a Manilow song would have better lyrics. But it is definitely more seventies power ballad than contemporary web-slinger cool. Although, the lyrics do mention GPSs, so I guess that brings it into the modern world.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finally hits U.S. theaters on May 2, although it has already opened in 14 international markets. I still have some reservations, no matter how much I like the cast. But who am I kidding? I’m still definitely going to see the movie.
