Watch: The Complicated Creation of JURASSIC WORLD's Practical Apatosaurus
(Small spoilers for Jurassic World ahead.)
While director Colin Trevorrow utilized more CGI on Jurassic World than Steven Spielberg did on Jurassic Park, he did fight for the right to create one very important practical dinosaur: a dying Apatosaurus. By creating this creature in a practical setting, it gave stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard a physical presence to play off of, and since that sequence is the turning point for Bryce's character (the dinosaurs become real to her instead of just "assets"), it was vital that the scene looked and felt as real as possible.
