Watch THE GOONIES Cast Reunion Right Now and Steven Spielberg Comments on a Sequel
Yesterday, Josh Gad hosted a cast reunion for The Goonies and it was pretty damn enjoyable. The virtual reunion brought together Sean Astin (Mikey), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), Ke Huy Quan (Data), Martha Plimpton (Stef), Kerri Green (Andy), and Josh Brolin (Brand). The surprise guests included Joe Pantoliano, Robert Davi, director Richard Donner, and producer Steven Spielberg!
I’ve gotta say, it was really cool seeing all of these guys get together again to talk about The Goonies and reminisce on the fun times they had while making it. The nostalgia aspect of this was beaming with awesomeness!
I know that some of you don’t care to see a sequel for this film and I totally understand that! But watching this made me want to see these guys get together for another Goonies adventure! I’d much rather see a sequel to the film than a remake, which we all know is going to happen one day.
Spielberg was asked about the possibility of the sequel by Gad during the reunion, and he explained that the creative team revisits the idea of a sequel every so often before they brush it off:
“Chris and Dick and I and Lauren [Shuler Donner] have had a lot of conversations about it, and every couple of years we come up with an idea, but then it doesn’t hold water. The problem is the bar that all of you raised on this genre. I don’t think we’ve really successfully been able to find an idea that is better than The Goonies we made in the ‘80s.”
