The New Trailer for POKEMON GO Fest Was Directed by Rian Johnson
Rian Johnson has directed a new commercial for an unlikely app: Pokémon Go. That’s right, the director of the hit film Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi has directed a new commercial promoting Pokémon Go Fest which is the annual big event for the hit mobile game. Normally, fans can only participate if they go to a specific location like Chicago last year. This year though, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually. Talking about his experience with the game, Johnson said:
Pokémon Go has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months. As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot. It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.
It should be noted that Johnson was based in Los Angeles, with the 30-second commercial being made in New Zealand, meaning it was directed remotely.
Pokémon Go Fest will be happening on July 25-26. Will you be playing?
