Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, Fringe, Little Fires Everywhere) has signed on to take on the role of Dr. Death in the upcoming limited series at the NBC streaming platform, Peacock. The title role of the doctor was originally given to Jamie Dornan, but the streamer stated that due to the pandemic-related production delays, Dornan is no longer available.

This is Us and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Sullivan also had to drop out of the project due to conflicts brought on by the production delays, and his character has been recast as well with Dominic Burgess (The Magicians, Santa Clarita Diet).

Dr. Death is based on a true story that was previously chronicled in the 2018 podcast produced by Wondery “that tells the story of Christopher Duntsch, a Texas surgeon who was convicted of gross malpractice after thirty-one of his patients were left seriously injured after he operated on them, and two patients died during his operation.”

Other cast members in the series include Alec Baldwin, Molly Griggs, Grace Gummer, AnnaSophia Robb, Christian Slater, and Trace Pope. This is such a crazy story, and I am excited to see it play out onscreen. What do you think of the new casting details?

Dr. Death is set to hit Peacock in 2021.
