Watch The Short Film That Inspired The Horror Film NIGHT SWIM
The recently released horror thriller Night Swim was inspired by a 2014 short film of the same name created by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire. That short is now online for all of you to watch. It’s a decent little short film and you can see why it was picked up for a feature film.
Unfortunately, the feature film was not very good. There were so many other directions that they could have taken the story, but in the end, it just ended up being a cliche and predictable horror movie, which is a shame.
During an interview with Bloody-Disgusting, McGuire talked about the short film’s inspiration, saying: “The short was really just Rod Blackhurst and I hanging out in a pool one night and being like, ‘Remember when you were a kid, and you got freaked out because you couldn’t see the bottom anymore?’ And you thought that something was beneath you. It was like, ‘Yeah, I still feel that.’ Then, ‘Let’s see if we can capture that in a short amount of time, in a short format.’”
The short stars Megalyn Echikunwoke (Emily the Criminal, Damien) as Eve, “a woman who finds herself stalked by a dark presence when she decides to take a leisurely night swim.”
The short doesn’t dive into any mythology or explanations, but it sets up some good creepy tension and delivers some fun scares. It’s cool that they got to turn it into a feature film, but the story and script could’ve been so much better and more interesting.
Check out the short and tell us what you think.
