Watch This Eerie Short Silent Film Adaptation of HANSEL & GRETEL From Director Robert Eggers

This is a black and white silent film adaptation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel & Gretel and it was directed by Robert Eggers. The filmmaker went on to direct The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman. He is also developing a remake of the classic vampire film, Nosferatu.

This Hansel & Gretel short was shot in 2006 and it’s got a very haunting, eerie, and sinister tone. The film was shot in a German expressionist horror style and I love it! The movie looks like it was shot in the 1920s and I love the visual style of the set, location, and character designs. The evil witch especially is quite frightening and it looks like she was pulled right out of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead universe.

This is a nightmarish adaptation of Hansel & Gretel and I hope that you enjoy it! Thanks to /Film for the heads up on this!
