Japan is doing everything they can to ensure our future is as robot friendly as it has been portrayed in film, and this step while small, does do a lot more than you think. Check out this robot taking a coffee order (via Geekologie) and continue on below:

So big whoop right? All that robot did was play middle man while that woman went and put the cup in and everything! This robot is definitely a gimmick, but he also has the ability to recognize the faces of customers and chat them up for entertainment while they wait for their customized coffee to be made.
