Watch This Unintentionally Creepy 1930 Stop-Motion Animated Film Made With Dolls
This is an old stop-motion animated film from 1930 titled Doll Daisy in Hearts and Flowers. It was originally released by Warner Brothers as part of its ‘Vitaphone Varieties‘ series, with sound. The Vitaphone soundtrack hasn’t been found, but apparently, there are people still trying to recover it.
The film was directed by Howard Moss, who was one of the earliest stop-motion animators. The story follows two men who compete over winning the heart of their common love interest.
It was made to be a cute little story, but it’s unintentionally creepy! The film was rescued by animator Mark Kausler:
This nearly lost short was released by Warner Brothers as part of its varieties series. The sound track, on Vitaphone disc, remains lost. The film remains for us to enjoy, thanks to the preservation efforts of Mark Kausler.
Different people have put their own soundtrack to the story. I also included a video that features music.
