Ways to Get Kids Moving at Home Thanks to Interactive P.E. and Pokémon Yoga on YouTube

This week has been a test of strength, patience, and will for parents everywhere. It would have been Spring Break for my kids, where we would have taken a trip, or gone to museums, or done other fun activities, and we definitely would have spent a lot of time at the library. But instead we stayed home. Everything was closed, understandably, and for good measure it rained for a good portion of the time. So we played games, cleaned the house, read books, and watched an insane amount of movies and shows. But now that we know we are going to be home and pretty quarantined for the next three weeks at least, I have decided we are going to add a bit of structure to our days.

One thing we’ve implemented is some physical activity, and two YouTube channels have come in handy in doing so. The first was a video from fitness trainer, Joe the Body Coach. He posted this 5-minute fitness video for kids about six months ago, but has said on social media that he will do a new kids P.E. video every day beginning this week. The workout is just five minutes, and easy enough for any beginner, but definitely got the heart racing. The kids were happy to keep up and liked the video a lot.

After this warm up, my boys did a session of Cosmic Kids Yoga. This is a super fun channel full of tons of yoga workouts for beginners. They each have a theme, and you can find one for whatever your kids are into. My boys chose the Pokémon yoga, but there are Trolls, Frozen, Moana, and Flossing themes, plus tons more. The page also offers dance videos and guided relaxations for little ones, which might be great for kids right now. Each workout is fun and has moves that correlate with the theme of the video. My kids love them, and they are excited to try them all.

I will post a picture below of my kids doing their workout, as well as the videos they followed. Hopefully your kids will enjoy these as well. Or if you need a little physical activity, try them out for yourself, and let us know how it goes!
