We Can All Thank Tom Holland For Getting Disney and Sony To Work Together on Spider-Man Again
It looks like we can all thank Tom Holland for getting Disney Studios and Sony Pictures to come back together to find a way to work with each other on Spider-Man again.
There was a point where Disney and Sony were done with each other. They weren’t talking and they were planning to go their separate ways on Spider-Man. Then Tom Holland stepped in to try and fix things.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Holland made several appeals to both Sony and Disney executives to try and get them back to the negotiating table. It’s explained:
Holland began flexing his diplomacy after the D23 wrapped Aug. 25. He leaned on Rothman to re-engage with Disney (the actor was able to leverage his clout because he also is set to star in Sony's Uncharted) and also surprisingly reached out to Bob Iger, beseeching one of Hollywood's most powerful executives to return to the table.
Well, thankfully it worked! Disney and Sony started up conversations again and eventually a deal was made to where Disney will reportedly put up 25% of the cost of the next Spider-Man film and receive 25% of the profits. The new film will be overseen by Marvel's Kevin Feige and Sony's Amy Pascal.
After the deal closed, Feige made the following statement:
"I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Pascal Added:
"Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes. This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”
It’s pretty cool to learn that Holland was the driving force between getting Spider-Man back at Marvel and the MCU. You can tell he loves the fans so much and doesn’t want to let them down.
