We know The Runtime For THE DARK TOWER and It's Surprisingly Short

The upcoming Dark Tower film, based on the fantasy series from Stephen King is made up of eight novels that comprise 4,250 pages. Sounds like an epic amount of material to look forward to in a series of movies, right? Well according to the British Board of Film Classification, the actual runtime of The Dark Tower is surprisingly short, coming in at an impressive 95 minutes long. The Dark Tower, on which the potential of the entire franchise will be gauged will run an hour and 35 minutes in length. I will say the first book in the Dark Tower series (Dark Tower: The Gun Slinger) is only 224 pages long, so maybe that has something to do with the total running time of this debut film. But several of the later books are up to 3 times longer than that, some having well over 700 pages each. So it will be interesting to see how things will progress in this series.

For the purpose of comparing The Lord of the Rings books are a series of three books totaling 1,008 pages. And we got 3 pretty long theatrical release films and 3 very long extended editions out of that series. So only time will tell what filmmakers end up doing with the Dark Tower series.

Of course, we should keep in mind that this isn't a direct adaptation of the books. This is a sequel, a continuation of the story, so I guess they can make it as long as it needs to be to tell the story.

Dark Tower is to be released on August 4, and stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.
