We May Not See The Collector in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2
One of the most intriguing and mysterious characters in Guardians of the Galaxy was Taneleer Tivan, a.k.a. The Collector, who was played by Benicio Del Toro. He's one of those characters that I was really hoping we would get to learn more about in the sequel, but it looks like that might not be happening.
James Gunn and Marvel are deep in the casting stages for Vol. 2, but Del Toro has yet to hear anything about coming back to be a part of the sequel. Comingsoon.net had a chance to briefly meet with the actor, and they asked him if he was going to return for the sequel. This was his reply:
“I don’t think so. They would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”
So that’s kind of a bummer. It doesn’t mean we won’t see his character in the MCU again, though. There’s always a chance he could pop up sometime down the road. Hell, the guy is holding onto one of the Infinity stones! He was given the Aether, which is the Reality Stone, at the end of Thor: The Dark World. Maybe he’ll show up in Thor: Ragnarok!
As of right now, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff. Kurt Russell is also said to be in talks to play Star Lord’s dad.
This doesn’t mean that Del Toro won’t be having fun making big sci-fi movies! He’s currently a part of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII. Who knows, maybe he’ll get a call at the last minute to be in the movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be released on May 5th, 2017.
