Well... Shane Black Has Killed The Predator Franchise With THE PREDATOR

So, I saw The Predator last night. I was really excited about this movie! I’m such a huge fan of the franchise and I was hoping so badly that it would be a good movie! Unfortunately, the movie is a complete mess of a film! It’s easily one of the worst Predator films that has been made and I think it is the final nail in the coffin for the franchise. Director Shane Black has killed the Predator franchise!

This is disheartening because I’m a fan of Shane Black and the films that he’s made! I thought he would deliver a great film for the fans, but it didn’t even feel like a Shane Black movie! The movie was laughably bad with a terrible script filled with some of the most god-awful dialogue. There were aspects of the film had audiences members cringing throughout the movie.

Early on in the film, when Olivia Munn’s character sees the Predator for the first time, she says “You’re one beautiful mother fucker.” Which is, as you know, is supposed to be a call back to the original film where Arnold Schwarzenegger says, “You’re one ugly mother fucker.” From that moment on, I knew the film was going to be all downhill from there and it totally was.

Speaking of Olivia Munn, she was awful in this film! She was one of the worst parts about it. Everything from the way her character was written to the way the actress played the character. Every time she was on screen it was like nails scratching on a chalkboard. That character was just so annoying. Maybe that’s what Black was going for?

I will say that I enjoyed some of the humor in the film and the dynamic between the misfit military crew who find themselves up against The Predator. I even laughed a couple times. I think the dysfunctional military team up was a fun dynamic that could’ve worked in a completely different movie that didn’t involve the Predator. At least the actors cast in those roles fit the characters the played.

Then there’s the disappointing VFX work that was done for the film. These days there should be no excuse for bad special effects for a big budget movie like this, but for some reason the effects were low-quality that did not impress.

I also wasn’t a fan of that whole Ultimate Predator thing that they introduced. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but the whole story revolving around the two Predators was ridiculous and it all led to one hell of a stupid-ass ending that had the audience busting up in laughter… and not in a good way.

The Predator was just an all-around mess. I’ve seen some reviews say that there is DNA of a good Predator movie in this film, but I think that DNA only included the concept of the Predator. When you see the film, you’ll understand why I feel the way I feel.

I normally try to see the good in the movies that I see. I always try to find the positive stuff and enjoy a film for what it is, but I just could not find that with The Predator and it made me sad. This is a movie you need to see with a group of friends so that you can at least all laugh and joke around together about how bad it is.

Of course, I know that some of you may actually legitimately enjoy the movie. If you are able to find the good in this movie and you end up liking it… awesome! I’m not going to argue with you about it or tear you down over your opinion. I personally just couldn’t ultimately enjoy this movie. The Predator is the worst film that I’ve seen this year.
