WEREWOLF BY NIGHT Director Michael Giacchino Will Direct a Reboot of The 1954 Sci-Fi Film THEM!

Film composer Michael Giacchino, who recently directed Marvel’s Werewolf By Night has landed his first big feature film directing gig and it’s gonna be a fun one! He will be directing a reboot of the classic 1954 sci-fi man-eating monster movie Them! for Warner Bros.

Giacchino is currently meeting with writers in hopes of getting the project into production sooner rather than later. This seems like a perfect film for Giacchino to take on considering how he handled Werewolf By Night and that wicked old-school filmmaking style.

In the original film, “While investigating a series of mysterious deaths, Sergeant Ben Peterson finds a young girl who is unable to speak. As Peterson joins forces with FBI agent Robert Graham and scientist Dr. Harold Medford, he discovers that all the incidents are due to giant ants that have been mutated by atomic radiation. Peterson and Graham, with the aid of the military, attempt to find the queen ants and destroy the nests before the danger spreads.”

Giacchino said in a statement: “There’s always a movie in your mind that never leaves your head. For me, that’s Them! It wasn’t until much later in life until I learned what it was about — the nuclear age. What I love about Them! is exactly what it’s called: Them! It’s about the other, the unknown which one refuses or can’t understand. The current version of Them! is about immigration, and to tell a story about the subject through a lens of this insane science fiction monster movie,” teases Giacchino about what his early vision is for the pic.”

I’ve always enjoyed watching those old sci-fi and horror films from the 50s and 60s, and Them! is definitely a favorite! I like how enthusiastic Giacchino is about the movie and I can’t wait to see what he does with his version of the movie! I have now doubt it will have style.

Before jumping into directing, Giacchino composed films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Trek, The Batman, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and more. Giacchino also plans to score Them! in the same way that he scored Werewolf by Night.
