Wes Anderson Wants to Make A Horror Film

Wes Anderson is a great filmmaker who has a knack for telling great, quirky stories. The guy has a talent for coming up with fantastic characters for his films. Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel are two of his most recent projects. I’ve always thought it would be interesting to see what Anderson would do if he ever made a horror movie. Turns out he’s actually been thinking about it, and he wants to eventually make one.

While at the Rome Film Festival, Anderson talked with author Donna Tartt, and it was in this conversation that that he revealed he wanted to make a horror film. In regards to that, the director said:

“I have thought of doing a horror movie, and I have thought of doing a Christmas movie. Horror is an area where if a filmmaker really wants to use all the tricks, the techniques to affect your emotions…. With the kind of movies I do, you’re supposed to say is this part supposed to be funny, or is this part supposed to be sad? Well, you say, I don’t know. I’m not sure. This is the way we wanted it. When you make a horror or a thriller, you say you’re supposed to be scared here. You’re supposed to be relieved here. Here we’re explaining something so you know the next part so you’ll be more scared then. I like the idea of the requirements and the obligations of working in a genre like that. I’ve done some scenes like that, but I’d like to do a scary movie.”

Anderson really needs to push this forward. The world needs to see how a horror film by Wes Anderson would turn out. He has such a distinct and unique style to his films, and it would be fascinating to see a horror film told in that style. It would be even more interesting if he broke away from that style and did something completely different. Either way, I’m 100% on board to watch it! I’d much rather see him do that than a Christmas movie, but I’m sure he could do both if he wanted to. Here’s what he said about Christmas films:

“The good thing with a Christmas movie — if you make a great Christmas song or movie or book, as Dickens showed us, you can make a huge fortune, because they come back every year. As long as you have a piece of the action, then it’s a perennial.”

Anderson’s next project will be a stop-motion animated film about dogs that stars Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Bob Balaban, and Jeff Goldblum

Here’s a funny fake trailer from SNL that is a horror parody of Anderson’s movies called The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders
