Wes Ball Comments on Directing Disney's "Awesome Chapter" of the PLANET OF THE APES Franchise

Earlier this week it was announced that Disney was moving forward with a new Planet of the Apes film and that Maze Runner director Wes Ball would be helming the project. There wasn’t much information to reveal regarding the project. We don’t even know if the film will serve as a sequel to the recent trilogy or if this will be another complete reboot.

But, Ball seems confident in the direction he is looking to take it. The filmmaker recently took to Twitter to comment on the film project saying:

“I’ll say this about Apes. I grew up on the original and absolutely love the previous trilogy. I would only do this if I felt I could offer something special while still honoring what’s come before. We have something that’s shaping up to be an awesome chapter to this franchise.”

In a follow-up tweet, he added: “It also doesn’t hurt I’m friends with all the folks behind these movies.”

Well, it’ll be interesting to see what exactly this new Planet of the Apes movie ends up being. As I’ve been thinking about it, I think I’d rather see the story of the recent trilogy continue than see the franchise rebooted again. There’s so much more story to tell that they could have fun with. Whatever Ball and his creative team do, hopefully it turns out as awesome as he says it will be.
