WEST SIDE STORY Star Rachel Zegler Set to Star in Disney's Live-Action SNOW WHITE Movie
Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? Well, Disney believes that person is Rachel Zegler, who they have cast as Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of the classic fairytale.
Zegler got her big break with the upcoming remake of West Side Story, which is coming from director Steven Spielberg. She is also set to appear in the DC superhero film Shazam: Fury of the Gods. We have yet to see what her performances are like in these films, but one thing we do know is that she has a beautiful voice.
Not long after the casting was announced, Zegler shared the following two tweets on Twitter, one of which features a video of her meeting Snow White at a Disney theme park.
Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) is directing the Snow White movie and production is expected to begin sometime in 2022. Webb said in a statement:
“Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.”
Marc Platt is serving as a producer on the film with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting duo behind the songs from La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen. They are set to write new music for the film.
Snow White is a super dark story, even the original animated film has some terrifying moments! I hope that they incorporate those dark elements in the upcoming live-action movie!
