What Did You Think of TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTS? While Audiences Are Loving It, I Was So Disappointed

The audience score for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has set a franchise high with an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I honestly don’t understand why. So, I wanted to take the question to our audience and ask what you all thought of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

While the film has an 88% audience score, it has a 55% critics score. In my opinion, Bumblebee is still the best movie in the franchise, but that has a 74% audience score. However, it’s the best reviewed Transformers movie with a 91% critic score.

As for the other films in the franchise, 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is at 57%, 2011's Transformers: Dark of the Moon is at 55%, 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction stands at 50% and 2017's Transformers: The Last Knight has a 43% rating.

I saw Rise of the Beasts over the weekend, and after reading all of the positive reviews I was actually kind of excited about watching it! Some people have been saying that it’s the best film in the franchise! Well, I ended up walking about the theater super disappointed. I thought the movie was just more of the same of what Michael Bay was doing with his later films in the franchise. Definitely not as good as Bumblebee or Michael Bay’s first Transformers film.

There are so many reasons why the film just didn’t click for me, but first and foremost was the script and story. Bumblebee proved that you could tell a strong Transformers story with solid character development, but Rise of the Beasts just went backward with the storytelling quality! Hell, the original animated Transformers: The Movie had a better story and script! This movie just leached off that but made it worse.

It’s so frustrating for me to see an awesome franchise like Transformers, something that I grew up with and am excited about, squandered. This movie could and should’ve been so much better. There’s a lot of great talent involved, and a lot of hard work goes into making these films! The least the creative team could do was tell a great story worth telling.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura said of the film: "People really loved the heartfelt story of Bumblebee, but some of the core fan base wanted a more intense experience, so when we set out to make this movie, our goal was to combine heart and spectacle and to make sure those two sides served each other well. This film has the enormous scale that the Transformers films are known for and the intimacy of Bumblebee in terms of relationships. It's just a really big experience in every way possible."

I just don’t think they managed to pull that off. For me, it was just more of what Bay was doing in his later Transformers movies.

He went on to say that the new movie introduces "a lot of new heroes and villains that are going to blow the minds of diehard fans. It's chock full of robots we haven't seen in a movie before. That's one of the great things about Transformers: The lore is based on what happened back on Cybertron, which gives us a lot of leeway to explore the universe at large. So in this movie, we're bringing in the Maximals for the very first time."

I don’t care what Transformers characters show up in the film! It’s how they are utilized in the story that matters and Rise of the Beasts just dropped the ball with that.

I can normally find lots of good things in movies and I’m normally so positive. People always fault me for "liking everything” but that’s obviously not true. There are movies that I don’t like and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts just did not do it for me. There were just way too many things that had me rolling my eyes. I just see the potential of how incredible this franchise could be, and for some reason, the people in charge of making the film just can’t hit that mark of pure awesomeness.

I can totally see kids and young teens enjoying this movie, though! While it didn’t offer the entertainment I was hoping for, there are obviously a lot of people out there that did enjoy the movie. If you liked the film, please let know me know why, I’m curious. I’m not here to bash your opinion, I’m honestly interested to know why people liked this movie, what did I miss that so many other people are getting?

Please share your thoughts about the film in the comment section below, the good and the bad!
