What Does Jack Kirby's Family Have to Say About Marvel's ETERNALS Announcement at Comic-Con?
When you are attending a Marvel panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, it could be described as an otherworldly experience. This year’s presentation was so next level that I totally understand why DC pulled out. Don’t get me wrong, DC knows how to put on a show, but I wouldn’t want to go up against Marvel when you know they are going to be bringing their A game. Like when they are going to announce Phase 4. Marvel has a way of making you feel like you are the only person in the room and everything they present was catered just for you. Marvel even has a way of taking their lesser known properties like Shang-Chi and The Eternals and presenting them in a way that makes you think that these were the only adaptations you have ever wanted.
With all of Marvel’s big announcements this weekend, Comicbook.com was able to talk to Jeremy Kirby, grandson of Jack Kirby, and ask him what he thought about the casting of The Eternals. Here is what he had to say:
I was absolutely thrilled when I heard the news that Marvel would be bringing my grandfather’s Eternals to the big screen," Kirby tells us. "Seeing these creations brought to the forefront of pop culture, is a wonderful testament to my grandfather’s creative talent and ability to introduce entire worlds of characters that continue to resonate with fans across the world. Kevin Feige is a true Kirby fan and the cast and crew of the movie are fantastic. Along with Ava’s upcoming New Gods movie and a few others too early to mention, these amazing Jack Kirby creations from both Marvel and DC, should be gracing the big screen for years to come!
I am glad that the Kirby’s approve of what is going on. It is a great way to honor a wonderful artist and storyteller. I like that he included the announcement that Kirby’s New Gods that will be directed by Ava DuVernay. I am interested to know what the other projects that he is talking about. Silver Surfer? Namor? The Dingbats of Danger Street? I can’t wait to find out what is coming next.
Eternals will star Angelina Jolie as Thena, Selma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridolf as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, and Don Lee as Gigamesh. Chloe Zhao will direct the film that will be released November 6, 2020.
