What The End of SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Means for the Future of Spider-Man in the MCU

If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far From Home yet, you might want to skip this article for now because it dives into heavy spoiler territory involving the end of the film. I just wanted to talk about the end and start a discussion on what it will mean for Peter Parker’s future in the MCU.

One of the biggest twists in the film was revealed during the mid-credits scene. After Spider-Man beats Mysterio and is back in New York City living his life and swinging around with MJ, we learned that Mysterio had one more big plan up his sleeve to ruin Spider-Man and take him down.

In a final act of villainy, Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), a.k.a. Mysterio, who ended up being a disgruntled former Stark employee who lied to Peter Parker in order to become a famous superhero, planned to have a video released by one of his team members, William Ginter Riva (Peter Billingsley).

That video is broadcast online and shared by several news outlets including J. Jonah Jameson, who is played by the great J.K. Simmons! That was an awesome surprise! Anyway, the video was shot by one of Mysterio’s drones and shows Mysterio begging Spider-Man not to kill him. It also frames Spider-Man as the one responsible for the drone attack in London. This solidifies Mysterio as the real hero he always wanted to portray himself as and a martyr. Before Mysterio died he told Peter that the people will believe what the media wants them to believe and that is exactly what is happening here. He was framed for Mysterio’s crimes.

The final part of the video that Mysterio wanted shared with the world reveals that Spider-Man is, in fact, Peter Parker and posted his picture! That’s the huge shocking twist in the story! Now Spider-Man is the villain, and this is sure to fuel the fire of J. Jonah Jameson’s hatred for the character!

The fact that Peter Parker’s identity has been revealed to the world is a huge deal; it shakes everything up with Spider-Man and the way his stories will be told in the future. Spider-Man has always been a masked superhero with a true hidden identity. Him struggling to find balance between having a regular life and the life of a superhero has always been a story element for the character, and now that’s gone!

This is sure to create a ripple effect not only in the future Spider-Man films, but throughout the rest of the MCU, and it’s going to be really interesting to see how things play out from here.

It looks like for a time, Spider-Man will be Public Enemy No. 1 until he can actually prove his innocence and gain the trust of the people again. I imagine this isn’t going to be very easy for him. Spider-Man has a long history in the comics of being accused of villainous acts. The accusations usually come from J. Jonah Jameson, and you know he’s going to have fun tearing into Spider-Man in the next film!

It’ll be really interesting seeing Spider-Man trying to be a hero and help people in a world where no one trusts him. I imagine that there will be some people who won’t believe the accusations made against Spider-Man, but others that do and will feel betrayed by the web-slinger.

Then there’s the fact that everyone now knows that Spider-Man is Peter Parker! That is sure to make his life a living hell! Walking down the street as a regular person is no longer possible for him. He will always be bombarded by people. Then there’s the fact there may be legal action taken against him.

How do you all think this will all be handled in the new Spider-Man movie?
