While Shooting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Kurt Russell Kept Calling Star-Lord "STAR WARS"
Kurt Russell was a great addition to the Marvel cinematic universe and gave a great performance as Ego, the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But we're learning he struggled with one little thing while shooting the movie...the name of his son, Star-Lord.
Russell kept saying "Star Wars" instead of "Star-Lord". During one of the outtakes included on the Blu-ray for the film, Russell says:
"Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what's known, we've heard tales about the man they call Star Wars.... We could be in trouble," he jokingly adds.
"We've heard tell of the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He's all of Star Wars," Russell said, frustrated with himself. "We've heard of the movie Star Wars."
Director James Gunn confirmed on twitter (below) that it was a funny but a weird mistake.
The Hollywood Reporter points out that the mix-up may have come from Russell's past because Russell actually auditioned to play Han Solo back in 1976 for Star Wars: A New Hope. The actor was among a list of leading men who wanted the now-iconic role of Han Solo.
Video of Russell auditioning for Han has been floating around the Internet for years, you can see it below. In an alternate universe, it would have been fun to see Russell portray everyone's favorite smuggler. Think Big Trouble In Little China's Jack Burton in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives on Blu-ray August 22. You can get it on Digital HD now.
Working on a piece for the Blu-ray, which is fantastic! I love that Kurt kept calling Star-Lord “Star Wars”.
