Who Was That Character Introduced in THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER and Did They Come From The Comics?
Thor: Love and Thunder hit theaters today! If you haven’t seen it yet, get out of here and read this later! This post contains spoilers about an aspect of the film that plays a major role in the story.
There’s a new character that is introduced to the MCU in this movie, but I was not familiar with this character. I had no idea who it was and where their character originated from. So, I did a little digging to find out. If you’ve seen the movie, you know who I’m talking about.
One of the major plots of the film revolves around Gorr the God Butcher slaughtering Gods in an act of revenge for the death of his young daughter. The film ends with Gorr reaching Eternity, which is like a cosmic wishing well. His original motivation for reaching Eternity was to wish all gods out of existence.
However, when he does reach it, he ultimately ends up wishing for his daughter to come back to life. His wish is granted, and before Gorr dies, Thor agrees to take care of the child, and in the final scene the two rush out into battle together to help an alien race. The little girl is known as “Love” and Thor is known as “Thunder.”
The two have an adorable relationship and it set up a whole new series of Thor adventures. Thor wields Mjolnir again, while Love uses Stormbreaker. She also calls her new guardian "Uncle Thor."
So, where did Love come from? Not the comics! I couldn’t find anything on this character in Marvel Comics, and Thor doesn’t have or look after any children in the 616 universe. Gorr also doesn't have a little girl named Love in the source material, either.
So, Love is a completely original character that was created for the MCU and the character is played by Chris Hemsworth's real-life daughter, named India Hemsworth. I have no doubt that Marvel has big plans for these two in the future.
