Whoopi Goldberg Says SISTER ACT 3 Script Is Done but It Only Matters If Disney Wants to Do It

Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg returned to the Oscar’s red carpet this past weekend, and she was asked if fans could anticipate Sister Act 3 anytime soon.

The project was announced four years ago, amid covid, and has since seen setbacks due to strikes and delays. But late last year, Goldberg confirmed that the script was finished, so it seemed like we would have heard an update by now.

Goldberg told Variety on the red carpet, “We’re hoping it’ll happen sometime this year.” But when asked what she thought about the script, Goldberg responded by saying: “It doesn’t matter what I think. It only matters if Disney wants to do it.”

Goldberg starred in the first Sister Act back in 1992, which grossed $231 million on a $31 million budget. She returned for the sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, reprising her role as a former lounge singer in the witness protection program who is forced to hide out in a California convent. Ever since the successful first two comedies, people have speculated about a third.

Following her co-star Maggie Smith’s death this past September, Goldberg said that: “We’re having to make some readjustments [to Sister Act 3] because we just lost Maggie Smith, as you know. And so, we will get it done. We will get it done. It’s a shift.”

Stay tuned for updates on the sequel.
