Why Do The T-800's All Look Like Arnold Schwarzenegger? This is a Question James Cameron May Answer in TERMINATOR 6
Have you ever wondered why all the T-800s in the Terminator films look like Arnold Schwarzenegger? I have! I would love to know the story behind why these cybernetic organisms look the way they do. There's obviously a reason and it sounds like that's something James Cameron will explore in the upcoming Terminator trilogy he is developing.
While talking with The Arnold Fans in an interview, Cameron was asked if he would consider Arnold also playing a human character in any of the movies, and who the T-800 units would be based on? This was his reply:
“Yeah, you got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned! We’re talking pretty seriously now about doing some new Terminator films or possibly a trilogy and you’ll just have to see what surfaces in those.”
Cameron has obviously put a lot of thought into this and I know he knows where he wants to take it. We'll just have to wait and see because he's not going to spill all the awesome details right now!
All we know about the upcoming Terminator films so far is that Tim Miller was brought in to help develop it and possibly direct. We also know that the plan is to bring Arnold back into the movie and the actor recently revealed the next Terminator movie would start shooting in March of 2018, so that's exciting!
You may or may not know this, but there was an attempt to explain why what T-800s look like Arnold in Terminator 3, but the scene was cut, and for good reason. It was so ridiculously awful! You can watch that deleted scene below. Just wait until you hear Arnold start talking... yikes!
