WICKED: FOR GOOD Clips Reveal Two Big New Songs for Glinda and Elphaba
Fans of Wicked just got a major treat. During NBC’s Wicked: One Wonderful Night special, audiences were given their first real listen to two brand-new songs written by legendary composer Stephen Schwartz for Wicked: For Good, and they both promise to bring even more emotional depth to the story of Glinda and Elphaba.
The two songs, “The Girl in a Bubble” performed by Ariana Grande as Glinda, and “No Place Like Home” performed by Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, were briefly teased in trailers, but this new preview offered a clearer sense of their tone and placement within the story.
“The Girl in a Bubble” takes place at Glinda’s elegant Emerald City headquarters, where she reflects on the heavy price of her fame and position. Once a dream come true, being “Glinda the Good” now feels like a gilded cage. She’s realizing that all she ever wanted may not be what she truly needs.
Meanwhile, “No Place Like Home” finds Elphaba in a moment of raw introspection, grappling with her love for Oz, a world that now views her as the “Wicked Witch of the West.” The song captures her deep sadness and wanting to belong, showing a softer side of the character.
Both previews include glimpses from the unreleased poppy field sequence, hinting at flashbacks to brighter days at Shiz University with Glinda, Elphaba, Boq, Nessarose, and Fiyero.
These moments, paired with the reveal that we’ll see Glinda’s childhood, confirm that Wicked: For Good will expand on the original’s second act by diving deeper into both characters’ pasts and emotional journeys.
To cap off the evening, One Wonderful Night featured a special performance of “For Good” at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre. Grande and Erivo were joined by original Wicked icons Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth for a beautiful rendition of the beloved song.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night is now streaming on Peacock. Wicked: For Good opens in theaters on November 21.
