WICKER Trailer Introduces a Wonderfully Weird and Funny Original Story About the Perfect Husband
Black Bear Pictures has released the first trailer for Wicker, and if this preview is any indication, audiences are in for something wonderfully weird, funny, and completely unlike anything else arriving in theaters this fall.
The film made a big impression when it premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, earning strong reviews, and now the first trailer shows exactly why so many people were talking about it.
It's packed with sharp comedy, gorgeous visuals, and one of the most memorable movie concepts of the year. After watching it, I'm looking forward to watching the finished film.
The official tagline sets the tone perfectly: "A hard man is good to find." The film's official synopsis reads: "An audacious comedic fable about sex, marriage, and the absurdities of social convention, Wicker tells the wholly original love story of an ostracized fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who commissions a husband to be made by the local basketmaker (Peter Dinklage).
“When her wicker husband (Alexander Skarsgård) proves more spectacular than she ever imagined, his soulful spirit and unique prowess awaken something inside her, setting off a wave of jealousy, fascination, and upheaval that threatens the very fabric of village life."
Alexander Skarsgård looks incredible in this movie. The visual effects work from Weta is astonishing, making the character feel surprisingly lifelike while still preserving his handcrafted wicker appearance. It's an impressive achievement that immediately sells the fantasy at the heart of the story.
The trailer itself is fantastic. The editing has a playful rhythm that perfectly matches the film's offbeat sense of humor while teasing plenty of emotional and dramatic moments. It also does an excellent job of introducing the bizarre premise without giving away too much, making it hard not to want to see where this story goes.
The supporting cast is just as impressive, featuring Elizabeth Debicki, Ella Bruccoleri, Richard E. Grant, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.
Wicker was co-written and co-directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, reuniting after their delightfully inventive feature debut, Save Yourselves!.
This looks like one of the year's most original comedies, blending romance, fantasy, satire, and social commentary into something that feels refreshingly different. If the film delivers on everything this trailer promises, Wicker could end up being one of the biggest pleasant surprises of 2026.
Wicker opens in U.S. theaters on October 23, 2026.
