Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd Reteaming for Limited Series THE SHRINK NEXT DOOR for MRC TV
Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are teaming back up after having been in the movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy together in 2004. This time, they are starring in a limited series called The Shrink Next Door for MRC Television, which is based on the number one 2019 podcast of the same name. The series, which is inspired by true events, is being directed by Michael Showalter, who created Wet Hot American Summer and directed The Big Sick, with Georgia Pritchett (Veep, Succession, Avenue 5) writing.
Here’s the synopsis, courtesy of Deadline:
The Shrink Next Door is a dark comedy following the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf played by Rudd, and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz, played by Ferrell. Over the course of their relationship, the all-too-charming Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and taking over his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative one filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.
This sounds insane! The writing and directing team is awesome, and Ferrell and Rudd are comedic geniuses. I can’t wait to check this out! We will let you know when we get more details about when and where this project will land. Are you interested in The Shrink Next Door?
