Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd's THE SHRINK NEXT DOOR Gets a Series Order From Apple TV+
Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are reuniting for a new limited-series that is set up at Apple TV+. The series is titled The Shrink Next Door, and it’s a dark comedy that sounds like a crazy and fun story.
The show is inspired by the true events documented in the Wondery and Bloomberg Media podcast of the same name. The story follows “the bizarre relationship between psychiatrist to the stars Dr. Isaac ‘Ike’ Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin ‘Marty’ Markowitz (Ferrell). Over the course of their relationship, Ike slowly takes over Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s home and taking over his family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic morphs into an unprecedentedly exploitative relationship filled with manipulation, power grabs, and dysfunction at its finest.”
I’m gonna have to listen to that podcast, but it certainly sounds like this will make for a great and entertaining series! It’s going to be cool to see Ferrell and Rudd together again. They previously worked together on the Anchorman films.
The series will consist of eight episodes, and it comes from director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) with Succession and Veep scribe Georgia Pritchett set to write it.
